Northern Illinois Animal & Bird Hospital is family owned and has over 25 years of experience, we are USDA accredited and have been a member in good standing with the AVMA(American Veterinary Medical Association) for nearly 30 years

Northern Illinois Animal and Bird Hospital is a small practice operated by Dr. Peter Kennedy and built on high quality medicine and customer service.  Your calls will be answered by Dr. Kennedy, not a receptionist or technician.  He realizes your time is important, so appointments are booked to allow enough time to take care of your pet's needs, therefore he runs on schedule and you will not have a long wait in the waiting room (most appointments are seen immediately).  You can usually get an appointment within 1-2 days of calling and prices are extremely competitive.

Dr. Kennedy has lived most of his life in McHenry County.  When he was one year old his parents moved to Crystal Lake where he later attended St. Thomas the Apostle grammar school, Crystal Lake Community High School (now Central) and McHenry County College.  He received his BS in Animal Industries from Southern Illinois University and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985.  He worked as an associate veterinarian in Crystal Lake for 4 years and Chicago for 2 years before opening Northern Illinois Animal & Bird Hospital in Cary in 1991.  This was the first full-time animal hospital in Cary and has been in continuous operation for 23 years.

Dr. Kennedy's special interests include avian medicine, exotic medicine, wildlife medicine, surgery and orthopedics.  For over 10 years he has worked with the McHenry County Conservation District's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center providing veterinary services for sick and injured wildlife.

Dr. Kennedy has been married to his wife Denice for 15 years and has one son and one daughter.  His hobbies include bicycling, swimming, scuba diving, woodworking and painting.

When you stop by the hospital be sure to say hello to the resident cat, Kukiwon who is 1 year old.  Unfortunately, our other clinic cat, Kit Kat, recently passed away at 22 years of age.
